Role Summary

This is a newly created senior leadership position designed to elevate the finance function beyond its current accounting and compliance focus. The Director of Finance will serve as a trusted right-hand to the CEO (who carries the title of Executive Chair rather than CEO) — responsible not only for clean, timely, and well-communicated financial reporting, but for transforming finance into a genuine strategic partner to the business.

Jump+ has ambitious plans: doubling the store network, tripling revenue, and quadrupling profitability within 3–4 years. The finance function needs to be built for that trajectory — not just for where the company is today. The company's accounting fundamentals are solid. The added ingredient you will provide is the analytical focus and forward-looking discipline to translate financial data into actionable insight. This role is designed to deliver on that vision.

What You'll Own

Strategic Finance & FP&A

  • Own the annual budgeting and multi-year planning process end-to-end Build and maintain rolling financial forecasts that are used to run the business
  • Develop store-level and category-level P&L analysis to identify performance outliers — positive and negative
  • Lead margin analysis, cost structure reviews, and scenario modelling to support strategic decisions
  • Identify trends in revenue, cost, and working capital before they become problems
  • Prepare clear, decision-ready financial analyses for the CEO and COO, including ROI assessments for capital allocation and new initiatives

Reporting & Control

  • Ensure monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements are accurate, timely, and clearly presented
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls appropriate for a growing multi-location retailer
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll operations managed by the existing team
  • Contribute to the refinement of the company’s ERP software financial backend by ensuring financial processes, controls and system functionality comply with audit requirements, internal controls and accounting best-practices
  • Manage cashflow
  • Own the external audit relationship and ensure clean, efficient annual audits
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable tax obligations (GST/HST, payroll, corporate income tax) in coordination with external advisors
  • Own key external financial relationships including with the Apple finance organization, banking partners, and the company’s asset-backed lender

CEO Partnership

  • Act as the CEO's primary financial sounding board for operational, strategic, and investment decisions
  • Translate complex financial information into plain-language narratives and executive summaries
  • Flag risks and opportunities proactively — don't wait to be asked
  • Support negotiations with landlords, suppliers, and lenders with relevant financial analysis
  • Assist with development of financial targets for stores and the corporate team

Team Leadership

  • Lead and develop a team of two direct reports: Assistant Controller and Data Analyst (the Assistant Controller manages the four-person accounting and payroll team)
  • Raise the team's analytical capabilities over time — not just transaction processing
  • Establish a finance function that is respected and relied upon across the organization

What You Bring

Must-Haves

  • CPA designation (CA, CMA, or CGA legacy designations accepted)
  • 7+ years of progressive finance experience, with meaningful time in both FP&A and controllership roles
  • Demonstrated experience building or significantly improving forecasting and planning processes
  • Comfort rolling up your sleeves — this is a hands-on role, not a policy-setting one
  • Strong communicator: written, verbal, and visual (you can make a spreadsheet tell a story)
  • Experience managing a small finance team

Strong Assets

  • Retail or multi-location industry experience
  • Exposure to inventory management, merchandising margins, or lease accounting (IFRS 16)
  • Experience working directly with a CEO or owner in a privately held business
  • Familiarity with Canadian payroll compliance and provincial tax requirements

What Success Looks Like

After the first 60 days, you have a clear picture of where the numbers are strong and where they're not — and you've shared that view candidly with the CEO.

Within six months, monthly reporting is tightened, a rolling forecast exists, and the CEO (and the full organization) are using financial data differently.

Within a year, finance is seen as a strategic resource, not a back-office function. The business is making better decisions — on costs, on stores, on investment — because the finance function is actively contributing.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive base salary commensurate with experience
  • Annual performance bonus tied to business and individual objectives
  • Extended health and dental benefits
  • Three week’s vacation to start
  • Professional development support (CPA dues, relevant courses)
